ORGAN, MUSIC & CULTURE TOUR - FRANCE 2012 WITH CHRIS HAINSWORTH

Three days in Paris, the organs played by Franck, Widor, Dupré, Sainte-Saëns, Fauré and others. Visit the Cité de la Musique, Montmartre, the Musée d'Orsay. Then a coach tour - Houdan, Chartres, Poitiers, Saint-Savin, Saintes, Bordeaux, St Emilion, Sainte-Foy-La-Grande, Bergerac, Sarlat, Toulouse, Carcassonne, Béziers...Organ visits, music recitals and chamber-music concerts, guided cultural visits throughout, wine-tastings, - and good food promised!

Programme leader : Chris Hainsworth
Formerly Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Music in Waikato University New Zealand, before settling permanently in France, becoming Director of the Conservatoire de Musique in Beziers, and currently Beziers cathedral organist. Chris is a well-known concert artist on organ and harpsichord, and has led several Culture and Music Tours with Cpederf since 2003 with several more in the pipeline!

 Among the many music highlights  : in Paris : organ visits and recitals to Notre-Dame cathedral and César Franck’s organ at Sainte Clothilde, as well as various other great historic instruments; chamber music concert in the magnificent "Sainte Chapelle"; the superb "Cité de la Musique"; an evening in a lovely restaurant where you will be entertained by a group of young professional opera singers…After leaving Paris : two days arranged by the organists’ association in Poitiers (great university town) including the world-famous F-H Clicquot organ in the cathedral; the Don Bedos de Celles organ in Bordeaux; the Chapelet historic organ collection in Montpon; Saint Sernin in Toulouse, the greatest Romanesque basilica in the south of France; various privately organized chamber music recitals in superb settings…and lots more!

 
Among the cultural highlights (apart from Paris) : World Heritage Chartres - cathedral, stained glass, and medieval town; World Heritage Saint Savin Abbey (France’s answer to the Sistine Chapel!), the wonderful historic centre of Bordeaux (France’s answer to Saint Petersburg!); a morning at the "Ecole du vin" at Bordeaux; World Heritage wine-capital town of Saint Emilion; Sainte-Foy-La-Grande a typical 13th century "bastide"; Sarlat, perhaps the most exquisite and beautiful small medieval town in France (used as the setting for many historic films!); the “cité rose” of Toulouse (a great musical centre and one of the most-favoured cities for the French in which to live); the World Heritage sites of Albi and the walled city of Carcassonne; the unforgettable village of Cordes-sur-Ciel…and much more!
 
And as with all Cpederf cultural tours, special attention is paid to the menus : after all, enjoyable food is part of the "French experience"!
