Programme leader : Annie Bancroft
Educational director of Cpederf. Parisian born & bred, with degrees from the Institut de Sciences Politiques (the celebrated "Sciences Po"), the Sorbonne, as well as holding the "agrégation", Annie was a teacher of English in the Ivory Coast and Paris before being appointed the foundation-director of Creipac, in Noumea, New Caledonia, in 1979, responsible for the creation and organisation of French courses and "stages" for universities throughout Australia and New Zealand. Since 1984 she has been principal tour designer for all Cpederf's Language & Culture tours, as well as organising and running numerous educational tours for schools. In particular she has been responsible for the highly successful series of the month-long "January Stages" programmes designed for university students from Australia & New Zealand, now into their 27th year.
ARRIVE IN PARIS no later than 1 July 2009
A Welcome Day in Paris followed by two more days for cultural activities before taking the train to Vichy.
CAVILAM
The CAVILAM, affiliated to the Université de Clermont Ferrand, is arguably the finest university institution in France for the teaching of French as a foreign language. Each day you will have five hours of compulsory language classes, plus optional extra time in the media resourves centre. Evening social activities and an all-day excursion at the weekend are also included.
Supplementary private tuition classes on specific topics can also be arranged with the Cavilam : these need not be on a regular basis, but one a week, for example, on a specific problem may well prove rewarding!
NEVERS
From Friday evening to Tuesday morning you will be in the hands of a host family in Nevers - the families associated with Cpederf have been making students from Australia and New Zealand welcome in their homes for almost 20 years : these families participate in the scheme because they passionately enjoy the cultural exchange, and not because they are financially interested (as so often happens in home-stay arrangements)
PARIS
Your final week is in Paris and will be extremely busy - all sorts of guided cultural activities, accompanied walking tours, excursions, museums and art galleries of your choice, and in the evening, visits to the theatre, café-théâtre and cinema as part of your programme
FINAL ASSESSMENT
This will be held on the Monday morning (27 July), during which round-table session each participant will present a 15 minute talk on absolutely any topic which has been of interest during their stay in France!
This formal session will be followed by the Farewell Lunch in a well-known Paris restaurant (which is also a classified historic monument!)
OVERALL you will have nearly 250 hours of activities in French, including 50 hours intensive language classes at the Cavilam.
