

A guided presentation of what it means to live in France today, with visits and discussions around a whole variety of themes : society, history, culture, art & architecture, media, politics and education. A very full programme in Paris - while in Nevers you will soon discover that France is not Paris!!

You must arrive in Paris no later than Wednesday 7 January. Your Welcome Day is the following day, and sets the pattern for the next eight days in Paris - a non stop programme!
Each day is divided into three time-slots : for each day, one daytime time-slot is organised for group cultural guided visits and accompanied walks, giving you every opportunity to discuss in detail with our academically highly qualified professional guides, led by Maraorie Haffner; the second time-slot offers a range of activities - you are free to choose according to your own interests; the evening time-slot is usually given over to group visits to the cinema, theatre, or café-théâtre.
Among the aspects of Paris you will discover with our guides : Le Marais, Montmartre, Les passages couverts, the Père Lachaise cemetery, the Impressionist Museum Orsay, the Sorbonne, Versailles, the Louvre...
You will also be invited to visit either the Assemblée Nationale (Palais Bourbon) or the Sénat (Palais du Luexembourg), and to be members of the audience for a prgramme of cultural or musical interest at Radio France.
Your week in Nevers is full of activities. Your host family is responsible for the two weekend programmes and will make sure that you speak French constantly. The programme Monday - Friday is rich in varied cultural activites through which you will discover the history, architecture, art, society and culture of the region. Highlights include the important celtic museum at Bibracte (especially opened for you, normally closed in winter), the old Roman capital of Autun, the World Heritage centres of Vezelay and Bourges, and a private visit to Vauban's château Bazoches. In Nevers itself you will discover the ducal palace, and learn about the history of faïence which gave the town a world-wide repuation in the 17-18th centuries. Visits to local primary and/or secondary schools are arranged, and you will be able to discuss with local municipal authorities when you are invited to visit the mairie. In addition you will be taken to two excellent restaurants!
Back in Paris for four days of activities, continuing your intensive cultural and language programme, more theatres & cinemas, everything permanently supervised and in association with your Paris guides.
Friday 30 January : formal assessment day, round-table review of activities, oral presentation of a topic which has interested you, - and the evening Farewell Dinner.
The cost includes : all accommodation - in Paris (bed & breakfast basis in the Mije hostel in central Paris or hotel with supplement to pay), and two "festive" meals; in Nevers, full board family stay; return train travel Paris-Nevers-Paris; Travel Pass in Paris; all tuition fees; all cinemas, theatres, café-théâtres as part of the programme; all outings, guided visits, excursions, guided walking tours, museums and monuments featuring in the official programme. In fact, with the exception of lunch & dinner in Paris, all your expenses are catered for by the "stage" cost. (What you spend in addition is your own affair, but you will have very little free time!
The cost does NOT include travel to France or any hotel supplements.
