IMPORTANT NOTE :

YOU MUST ARRIVE IN PARIS NO LATER THAN 1st JANUARY 2012 BECAUSE THE "STAGE" COMMENCES ON MONDAY 2 JANUARY

OPTION 1 : FULL FOUR-WEEK PROGRAMME 2 - 28 JANUARY 2012 including THREE weeks at the CAVILAM (Accommodation reserved from Sunday 1 January - Sunday 29 January)

OPTION 2 : THREE-WEEK PROGRAMME 2 - 21 JANUARY 2012 including TWO weeks at the CAVILAM (Accommodation reserved from Sunday 1 January to Sunday 22 January)

Week 1 : The first day is a Welcome Day and preparation for your three-week course. The day's programme will include a Get-together Lunch in a typical Saint-Germain restaurant, and an early-evening cruise on the Seine to see Paris from the river.

For the rest of the week you will have a full programme of intensive language practice and cultural activities, the two being closely related. Each day a different theme will be chosen : for example, the architectural face of Paris, French Impressionist Painting, Paris as the capital of politics and power, Montmartre, Medieval and Renaissance Paris....

Major activities will include a guided visit of Versailles, the Orsay Museum, the Sainte Chapelle, the Invalides and the Opera Garnier, with as well, of course, time to visit the Louvre and go to the top of the Eiffel Tower!

Evening activities as part of the programme will include a visit to the theatre, a café-théâtre, and to a cinema. In the morning group sessions you will be prepared for each visit, and be expected to participate in subsequent discussions.

SUNDAY 8 JANUARY : free morning in Paris, before taking a fast train to Vichy where you will be met by members of the Cavilam and your host families.

WEEKS 2, 3 & 4 (Option 1), or WEEKS 2 & 3 (Option 2) : Intensive French language course at the CAVILAM.

The CAVILAM, affiliated to the Université de Clermont Ferrand is arguably the finest university institution in France for the teaching of French as a foreign language and the only one catering for students over very short intensive courses.

The ball starts rolling on the Monday morning with a series of placement tests to ensure you are placed in a group appropriate to your level. Then follow two or three weeks (depending on which option you have chosen) of intensive formal language classes, group practice and media resources back-up.

Evening cultural and sporting activities organised by the Cavilam, plus an all-day coach excursion at the weekend.

After courses on your last Friday at the Cavilam : return by fast train to Paris

Saturday 28 JANUARY (Option 1) or Saturday 21 JANUARY (option 2) in Paris. A full morning assessment session - each participant will offer a short presentation in French on a topic developed during your stay in France. This session will be followed by a Farewell Lunch in a well-known restaurant (which is also a classified historic building!). You are free to depart mid-Saturday afternoon if you wish, or take the opportunity of doing something you did not have time for in the first week! Your accommodation is booked until the Sunday morning.

In Vichy, all class and group teaching is the responsibility of the Cavilam staff. In Paris, the classes and discussion groups are held by Annie Bancroft and her associates, while specialists in architecture, painting, social history will be responsible for your formal visits, guided walks, and excursions.

Formal assessment reports & attainment certificates are given by both the Cavilam and Cpederf at the end of the "Stage".
